When it comes to hiding places that are preferred by bed bugs, you shouldn’t neglect treating places like electrical outlets, covers for switch plates, moldings or the areas from behind wallpapers and paneling. Just because they’re called bed bugs it doesn’t mean that they can only be found in the bed.

In most cases, people’s thinking is that a bed bug will be found either in the mattress or in the bed, and for the most part that is true. It’s not always true though, as bed bug is perfectly capable of hiding in other areas. When you’re trying to get rid of an infestation with bed bugs, you should always treat the entire room. If you don’t find all their hiding places, bed bugs will soon be back in full force and the infestation will not be taken care of. Since these tiny insects multiply fast in their hiding places, being thorough pays off when you’re trying to get rid of them.

Finding the hiding places of bed bugs

Because chinches are parasites that nest, predicting their behavior is not that hard, once you learn a bit about them. In most cases, bedbugs are found in areas which are close to the bed, never going farther than 10 ft from it. They prefer to be in the vicinity of the human host and the bed, so you can always find them in those areas.

Cluttered rooms are especially attractive to bedbugs and getting rid of unnecessary stuff is one of the best things you can do when you’re looking to get rid of an infestation of chinches. These insects take advantage of crowded rooms, finding hiding places easily and they’re tougher to get out when that happens.

One of the things you should be doing when you’re treating a room against bedbugs is looking at the floor moldings and treating them if necessary. Dark places where insects can hide are often the areas which need to be treated and these areas can include dark closets, under carpets and even in the electric outlets. They can be behind your wall paper and panels as well, so you need to be very thorough when you’re trying to get rid of them.

One thing that makes thing harder for those that live in apartments is that bedbugs aren’t restricted to just one apartment. Bedbugs of your neighbors can infest your apartment once again, even if you get rid of the ones that you have. Since chinches love staying in walls and crawling under wall sockets and baseboards, they are able to go from one apartment to another, infesting an entire building if steps aren’t taken to remedy the situation. When this happens, everyone must fight bedbug infestation at once, so they don’t have anywhere to hide.

Getting rid of bed bugs

When you’re fighting chinches, you can use steam cleaning to kill them in a natural way. Another solution is using diatomaceous earth and climb up interceptors. The interceptors will protect you by preventing the chinch bugs from reaching you in your bed and killing them in the process. As for the diatomaceous earth, it works by applying it near your baseboards, since it kills them and it’s a natural method of fighting them.
