The bedbug can be incredibly annoying and the cause of a lot of discomfort for the people that sleep in a house which they infest. These parasites were thought almost extinct, but they made a comeback during the last decade and these days are stronger than ever. Since the pesticides available can’t always kill them by themselves, there is a recommendation that they should be fought with a combination of different methods.
A bit of history
The use of pesticides was very popular in the past when it came to fighting these parasites. While they were quite common during the first half of the century, the use of DDT killed them in huge numbers once it became popular. Since DDT was banned a few decades ago, the bedbugs showed up once again and they are especially vicious and hard to kill right now. The EPA and the CDC announced that these parasites are showing up again all over the country. The chinches that exist these days seem to be resistant to a lot of the pesticides available on the market, so using just repellents and poison is no longer a viable option.
Pests are often though with the help of pyre-thrums, which can be both a bed bug pesticide and a repellent. The fact that there are chinches which are resistant to it makes it harder to fight them. These pyre-thrums work the same way that DDT did when it killed these insects, but many of them are immune to its effects. Both the EPA and CDC are recommending right now that people use less chemicals to fight bed bugs, in order to avoid getting even more of them resistant to the use of chemicals.
The regular bed bug repellent that are used to get rid of deer ticks and mosquitoes don’t have much of an effect when used against bedbugs. It’s also not recommended to spray these toxic substances on people before going to bed. Another reason why you shouldn’t use powerful repellants is the fact that it will scatter insects in a lot of directions, making them go to other rooms instead of keeping confined to a single location.
In order to fight bedbugs efficiently try to use both insecticides and other methods to control them. Besides using poison that kills them, try natural methods as well, using heat and steam to kill the chinches in a natural way.
